Ohio New State Record Walleye

Despite the challenging walleye fishing in 1999, one Brunswick, Ohio angler has no complaints. Tom Haberman landed a new state record walleye while perch fishing 2 miles off Cleveland November 23. He was fishing with friend and boat captain Andy Emrisko of Wave Walker Charters, Cleveland.
The fish weighed 16.19 pounds. It surpassed the old state record of 15.95 pounds caught off Marblehead Lighthouse in March of 1995.
When first weighed, Haberman’s walleye weighed in at 16.29 pounds but immediately afterwards spit up a round goby. When weighed again on a second scale, the fish weighed 16.19 pounds. It measured 33 inches.
Biologists at the Division’s Fairport Harbor Research Station determined the fish to be at least 13 years old.
