**On Saturday, June 25 the black bass (largemouth and smallmouth bass)
season opens on Ohio waters of Lake Erie. The daily bag limit is 5 and
the minimum size limit is 14 inches.**

Western Basin

*This past weekend (June 18 and 19) walleye and yellow perch fishing
were very slow in Ohio waters of the western basin following a drop in
surface temperatures combined with northeast winds.

Walleye
The best walleye fishing has been between West Sister Island and Middle
Sister Island and east along the Canadian border. Drifting or trolling
worm harnesses and trolling crankbaits or spoons produce the most fish.

Yellow Perch
The best area has south of Niagara Reef and around Gull Island Shoal.
Fish just off the bottom using perch spreaders tipped with shiners.

Smallmouth Bass
The best smallmouth bass fishing has been around the Bass Islands,
Kelleys Island and Sandusky Bay. Largemouth bass have been caught in
Sandusky Bay, East Harbor and West Harbor.

*White Bass and Channel Catfish fishing have been excellent near the
Cedar Point foghorn and in Sandusky Bay.

Central Basin

Walleye
Walleye fishing is heating up in the Central Basin and fishing has been
good 3 to 5 miles N off Fairport Harbor in 40 to 60' of water, 3 to 5
miles NW of Ashtabula in 48 to 62' of water, and 5 mile N of Eastlake in
50 of water. Trolling spoons, crankbaits, or crawler harnesses using
planer boards, dipsy divers or jet divers, have produced the best
catches. The best spoons have been rainbow colors with blues and pinks.
Fish have ranged from 15-28 inches.

Yellow Perch
Yellow perch fishing has been good 1-2 miles N of East 72nd St in
Cleveland in 35 to 40' of water and 1 to 3 miles out from Fairport
Harbor to Conneaut in 30 to 45' of water. A perch spreader tipped with
shiners is the most popular set-up. Fish have ranged from 8-12 inches.

White Bass

The best white bass fishing has been from the shore at the Eastlake CEI
wall. Anglers are using agitators with small spinners and twister
tails.

Fish have ranged from 8 - 12 inches.

Smallmouth Bass
Smallmouth bass fishing has excellent on Ruggles Reef and around the
shoreline and harbors in 15 to 30 feet of water around Fairport, Geneva,
Ashtabula and Conneaut. Jigs tipped with shiners, tube jigs, jerkbaits
and crankbaits have been the most productive lures.

Lake Erie surface temperatures range from 66 to 69 degrees.
