Well, its’ mid July and fishing is pretty good. We’ve experienced some of the very best fishing that I’ve ever seen along with a few days where we worked very hard for everything that we got. Most days our production as always revolves around the weather. When the lake isn’t too rough, we can circle around one spot after we find the fish and our total catch rate soars. When the lake is rough, well you get the idea.

We’ve had many limit catches with some very impressive sized Walleyes being landed. A couple weeks ago, we landed a 34-inch, 13 lb. monster. That fish even had me shaking! Steelhead Trout have made themselves scarce. At best we are doing 1 or 2 a day. Our best day so far has been 5 Trout that we landed out of the 8 that we hooked. Most fish are now being caught 8 to 12 miles off shore of Ashtabula, OH. The fish are now very deep, and we’ve been using wire line on crankbaits. The big Dipsey Divers have been productive as well. For the most part, its’ trophy Walleye season aboard “The Trophy” as usual this time of year.

As always, I urge all my charters to be ready to roll absolutely no later than 5:30 a.m. Our best fishing has been by far the first couple hours of daylight. By mid day, with the extreme heat, and sunlight that we’ve been receiving, the action dies down to next to nothing.

Anyone interested in a trip may reach me on my boat/mobile number 216-387-2656. I must apologize that the fishing reports are fewer and farther between this time of year. I am so busy, and tired with all this heat, that things like this get pushed off to the side. I will try to have another report up about the 1st of August. Anyone interested in an up to the minute report on conditions and fishing, is welcome to call me on the above mentioned number as well at any time.

Tight Lines!
Capt. Walt
