Hey, we're back! The Trophy has been in the water for over a week now and we even have a couple of trips under our belt. Considering how early it is, and the fact that the water clarity isn't all that great right now, fishing was pretty good for the Walleyes. Sunday we took a limit of 24 Walleyes. It pretty much took all day to do so but the weather was nice and it was a joy to spend the whole day again on the old pond.

Although others were hitting the reefs with mixed results, with a strong south wind I elected to work the shorelines just west of Port Clinton. Camp Perry was not firing on Sunday so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. In the morning 11 - 13 ft. of water produced Walleyes on every drift. As mid day approached, the south winds started to gust and action dropped off dramatically. We actually made several drifts without a fish before I gave up on our morning hot spot.

Reluctantly with the strong winds we ended up going further offshore and soon found ourselves right back in the action. There is no doubt in my mind that the Walleyes just moved into deeper water by mid day. We finished the day fishing in 14 - 17 ft. of water. No real monsters but just nice eating size fish ranging from 2 - 4 lbs. Everything we caught was smack on the bottom on either lead head hair jigs or blade baits. Colors actually didn't seem to matter much as we caught a few on most everything we tried.

Water temps held steady at about 42 degrees. Things should really take off with each passing day now. For anyone that may be interested, I have next Saturday, April 7th available for a charter next weekend although at this point the weather sounds a bit shaky for the later part of the week. We will just have to wait and see. If anyone is interested in 7th or for any other reason, I can be reached on my mobile 24/7 at (216)-387-2656. It's great to be back on the water!

Capt. Walt
