While airboats are still traveling from the mainland to fish offshore it should be considered unsafe to walk out on the ice or drive snowmobiles or ATV's onto the ice from the mainland. The best walleye fishing continues to be west of South Bass Island between Rattlesnake Island and Green Island, where the ice is sheltered. Although temperatures are expected to stay below freezing, the winds in the forecast will most likely alter ice conditions in any exposed areas. Be sure to check with local bait stores, ice guides or other anglers before going out on areas that you are not familiar with. |
