PERCH:

Here is six year old Sammy Ruhlman of Warren Pa. with her Angler Award sized Perch. It was 13 ounces, 12 ½ inches long and had a girth of 8 ¼ inches. She caught it out in 46 ft of water straight out of Walnut Creek using Emerald Shiners.

From what I have been hearing the Perch are anywhere from 48 ft to 55 ft of water. Some boats are going just a little east as they exit the channel here at Walnut and some are going straight out.

WALLEYE:

Twelve year old Kody Shankle of Cowansville, PA came in with a 7 pound 6 ounce Walleye for Angler Award. It was 27 ½ inches long and had a girth of 15 ¾ inches. He caught it out in 52 ft of water off the Condos. He was using a Rainbow Trout w/red head Plug.

Thirteen year old Jacob Kowchek of Burgettstown, PA brought in an 8 pound ½ ounce Walleye. It was 28 ½ inches long and had a girth of 16 ¾ inches. He caught his in 52 ft of water off the Condos too. He also was using the Rainbow Trout Plug.

The Walleye are being caught in the 30 ft to 55 ft of water range. The fishing is still very spotty though. Not many limits coming in at all for Walleye or Perch.

CHINOOK SALMON:

Barry Lichvar of Northeast PA came in with a 20 pound 8 ounce Chinook Salmon. It was 36 ¼ inches long and had a girth of 21 ½ inches. He caught it in 60 ft of water straight out of Walnut Creek. He was using a “Dream Weaver” (Roy Boy) spoon.

WEATHER:

The weather hasn’t been very good so far this year. It seems that for every couple of nice days that comes up there are a few bad days to follow. The fish keep getting scattered and no one can find them. They finally find some and then the weather gets bad and scatters them again. Well, next Friday is the first day of summer so maybe things will change by then.

Walnut Creek was dredged in the beginning of the season and I have not been told by anyone that they are hitting in the channel so all looks good.

The lake level is 2 ft below normal so that may be a problem. Just keep your props trimmed up as much as you can when going out and coming in.

The water temperature keeps fluctuating too. Last Wednesday it was 64 degrees and then by Friday it went to 54 degrees. Right now it is at 59 degrees. That is still cold for this time of year.
