September 10th, 2008 West Erie County, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert Conditions: A little rain and night time temperatures in the 50's have put a few steelhead on the move. No great numbers yet, but enough to keep a few anglers busy over the last week. Fish have been entering the west county tribs at night with a few fish holding at Walnut Creek up and into the Project water holes. A number of nice fish were caught this past Sunday morning off the wall at Walnut and along the shoreline at Trout Run. Again the emphasis is a on small numbers. Perch fishing remains good to great when the lake is calm. Walleye seem to be on the move although catches are still fair to good for those willing to find them. Lake Erie water temperatures as of this writing are 69 degrees off Toledo, 70 degrees off Cleveland, and 69 degrees off the Port of Erie. West County trig conditions are low and clear with fishable conditions at or near the tributary mouths. Locally there are 13 locations that will be targeted for cleanup. This highly successful annual event affords the public the opportunity to get involved and be part of the solution to the ever increasing problem of discarded trash and litter. The large turn out of volunteers annually yields staggering amounts of collected trash. In 2001, volunteers collected enough tires alone to out fit more than 31,000 cars ! "I want to thank any and all past and future volunteers, that make International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) a success. These volunteers, who may be anglers or hunters, and come from different backgrounds, are vital to this effort, and I want to share my appreciation for their tireless work and community service. ICC gives all who live in our area, a sense of responsibility before the cleanup, and a sense of accomplishment after it. All volunteers that step forward to assist in collecting and identifying trash, really DO make a difference in Erie County, Pennsylvania. It is unlawful to fish, wade or possess fishing equipment while in or along Lake Erie tributary streams designated as Nursery Waters. Archery fishing or spear fishing is prohibited in or along Lake Erie tributary streams. From September 2 until the opening day of trout season in April, all Lake Erie tributary streams are closed to fishing from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day except for Walnut Creek north of the Manchester Bridge and Elk Creek north of Route 5. Anglers fishing the wall at the Walnut Access are required to yield their lines to boats entering and exiting the channel. Boats have the right of way. It is unlawful to fish from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day within 50 yards of the mouth of both Trout Run and Godfrey Runs while fishing the Lake Erie shoreline. Daily creel limit on Lake Erie and its tributaries is now 3 fish (any combination of steelhead, browns, or coho) with a minimum size of 15". Only 2 of the 3 may be lake trout. Overnight camping (includes sleeping in parked cars or boats) is not permitted on PFBC controlled properties Open fires are not permitted on any property with out expressed landowner permission (Statewide regulation) Fish Eggs: Local Weather: Wednesday Night...Mostly clear.
